Finance Expert shares what likely will be first on Stewart in-tray at Rangers today

Patrick Stewart has the big issue of tackling the on-pitch issues at Rangers to improve future finances, Dan Plumley has said.

The new CEO at Ibrox started his role on Monday [16 December], with the Bears sitting 11 points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership and losing the Premier Sports Cup final on Sunday.

Plumley, a football finance expert, admitted that increased success on the pitch can dictate things next season and beyond, including the finances of that.

“It’s a big job,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.

“He’s a smart operator and brings with it a wealth of experience, and is clearly a big-hitter for Rangers.

“It’s a really good appointment, in my opinion, but in terms of in-tray, it’s a busy one.

“I think ultimately, that comes down to where they are on the pitch at the minute, they’re off the pace in the league table and what happens in the next few months will dictate next season and beyond, into the finances of it as well.

“It’s a big role and he’s got a lot of big items to look at, but prinicibly, it’s where they are now versus where they expected to be in the league table at this point in time in the season.

“That will be the big issue for him to tackle.” 

It was suggested that the future of Philippe Clement would be the first big decision facing Stewart, but his recent changes at Ibrox have likely saved him time.

The Belgian has overseen an up-turn in form with the 1-1 draw against Spurs in the Europa League being followed by the 3-3 draw and penalty loss against Celtic.
