Rangers defender John Souttar may have a Grade 1 or Grade 2 adductor injury, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.
The injury expert claims that he may even require surgery if the groin setback is more pervasive like a sports hernia.
Ahead of the game against Celtic, Philippe Clement confirmed that the 28-year-old will be out for several weeks.
Discussing his situation exclusively with Ibrox News, Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said: “The manager has said he will be out for a while and has said several weeks.
“Sounds like a Grade 1 or Grade 2 adductor injury.
“If it’s something more pervasive, like a sports hernia, then surgery could be possible which would mean months out.”
John Souttar is a pivotal part of the Rangers side
Clement will be hoping that the 28-year-old does not need surgery as that will keep him out longer than expected.
He’s arguably the best defender at the club and without him, the team is undoubtedly weaker at the back.
There is a chance that if he was fit for the Celtic clash on 15 December, Gers could have picked up a win.
In other Rangers news, Bobby Madden has been left shocked after a recent controversy involving Celtic on Sunday.
