'Better off not asking about him until I give an update': Postecoglou says 'world-class' Spurs player is out injured long-term

Tottenham Hotspur return to Premier League action on Saturday evening when they host Brentford in a 3pm kick-off in North London.

Spurs will be cautiously optimistic going into the game, following their remarkable turnaround in the midweek League Cup trip to Coventry City.

Tottenham were on the brink of going out as they trailed 1-0 late on, only for Djed Spence and Brennan Johnson to score and put Spurs through.

Ange Postecoglou’s charges will now look to get their shaky Premier League campaign back on track after they lost the North London derby last week.

However, Tottenham will have to do so without one of their main forwards, who is sadly a “fair way off” returning to action.

Tottenham forward Richarlison not expected to return to action for a while

Postecoglou held his pre-Brentford press conference on Friday afternoon, during which he relayed the latest team news.

The Spurs boss admitted Richarlison is “a fair way off” returning. Indeed, he told football.london that there’s no point asking about him for the time being.

“[Richarlison] is a fair way off,” Postecoglou told Alasdair Gold. “You’re better off not asking about him until I give an update because he’s not with the first team.”

What happened to Richarlison?

Richarlison is currently sidelined after he picked up an injury in training before their 2-1 defeat at Newcastle at the start of September.

The ‘world-class‘ striker, who came off the bench in their first two games of the season, was initially tipped to potentially return by the end of September, as per the Evening Standard.

However, Postecoglou’s latest update suggests it’ll be a while before he returns to action.

How could Tottenham line up against Brentford?

Postecoglou shuffled his pack against Coventry and is expected to bring his usual starters back against the Bees.

We’re likely to see a back line of Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Destiny Udogie ahead of Guglielmo Vicario.

In midfielder, Tottenham could go for Rodrigo Bentancur, Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison.

Finally, we could see Brennan Johnson, Dominic Solanke and Son Heung-min as part of the attacking trident.
