Tottenham Hotspur’s stadium being granted permission to host more non-football-related events will have a wider economic impact, according to Dan Plumley.
Spurs confirmed on their official website (2 August) that an agreement has been struck with Haringey London Borough Council to host 30 additional events such as concerts, rugby, boxing and NFL subject to an S106 agreement.
Plumley said the financial masterstroke from Daniel Levy is not only a boost to the club’s commercial coffers but is excellent news for the surrounding businesses in the area.
Speaking to Tottenham News, he said: “Yeah absolutely, it was always likely to be the play.
“We’ve said this before, start relatively small and keep growing it and that’s what they’ve done. We know there was a kind of little breach, I think for the Beyonce concert, where they went over the agreed license.
“But they went back to the council, and there are benefits for the council in all this too, there’s the wider economic impact that those events will bring to the area so it’s good business all round.
“And yeah, from Tottenham’s point of view, doubling the events, that’s on the revenue line.
“Of course, there will be costs to consider around hosting those events but you’re going to win more than you lose from a money perspective. So again another significant boost to the finances coming in future years.”
Tottenham receive another financial boost
Moving from their original White Hart Lane obviously was tough emotionally for the die-hard Spurs fans but the financial and commercial benefits it has brought to the club have been game-changing.
Not only do the club possess one of the most ground-breaking stadiums in the world but the additional commercial revenue provides a great stream of finance to the club.
In this day and age with clubs fighting PSR concerns left, right, and centre, being in possession of such a valuable asset is such a huge advantage.
And now with the increase of none-football related events, those streams are only going to increase. The fact it boosts those in the surrounding are is just another plus point.
In other Tottenham news, a permanent Spurs exit is now on the cards as temporary deal struck.
