Wenham gutted as Tottenham-linked star spotted at Biggin Hill last night to head elsewhere

John Wenham believes Ange Postecoglou will be less frustrated about missing out on Conor Gallagher due to the emergence of Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall at Tottenham.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose is still disappointed that the club haven’t been able to sign one of Postecoglou’s main targets.

It comes after Fabrizio Romano reported via X (6 August) that long-term Spurs target Gallagher (The Evening Standard, 19 June) is set to undergo a medical with Atletico Madrid. Sky Sports News shared footage of him at Biggin Hill Airport on 7 August ahead of his £38m Spanish move.

However, Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has speculated that Gray and Bergvall have softened the blow for Postecoglou.

“It was always going to be difficult for Tottenham to do a deal with Chelsea,” Wenham said.

“However, I think the emergence of Gray and Bergvall might have lessened Postecoglou’s frustration at missing out on Gallagher.

“Those are two midfielders who have been added to the club and look as though they will play a big role next season.

“Postecoglou did want Gallagher, and therefore I am disappointed that we have missed out on one of his targets. However, I do think his position might have changed slightly after pre-season.”

While Gallagher hasn’t officially joined Atletico Madrid, it is looking increasingly likely that the 24-year-old is headed to Spain.

The England international would have been a welcome addition in North London and certainly offered a quality option for Postecoglou.

However, it could be argued that Spurs don’t need a new midfielder at this point.

With the likes of Yves Bissouma, Pape Matar Sarr and Rodrigo Bentancur – as well as Gray and Bergvall – already on the books, the club might be better suited to targeting players in other areas of the pitch.
