'It sounded...': Alasdair Gold now shares if Dominic Solanke and Micky van de Ven will be fit to face Arsenal

Tottenham face a huge game this weekend as they look to see off Arsenal and really get their season up and running.

Spurs have won one, drawn one and lost one so far but now welcome Arsenal to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium really looking to make a mark.

Ange Postecoglou will be hoping to field his strongest XI and give Arsenal a proper game and in turn, derail the Gunners’ title push early on.

Of course, the international break brings a number of injury worries and Postecoglou has a few to contend with.

New signing Dominic Solanke is a doubt after missing the game prior to the break, while Micky van de Ven also missed the trip to Newcastle.

And speaking about the pair, journalist Alasdair Gold has offered an update on the duo.

Alasdair Gold says whether Micky van de Ven and Dominic Solanke will play against Arsenal

Speaking in a Q&A for Football.London, Gold has said that based on what Ange has said, both Solanke and Van de Ven should be fit for Arsenal.

“We can only go on Ange Postecoglou’s words and he said Dominic Solanke will be ready to face Arsenal. He said last Friday that he was close for Newcastle but they wanted to “err on the side of caution” and had previously dispelled any suggestion he would miss the North London Derby.

“It sounded the same with Micky van de Ven as he said he was “close in training this week but with the international break he’s not quite 100%”.

“With a further two weeks of recovery and work under their belts you would imagine both will be in a position to face Arsenal, but we’ll get the final word on Postecoglou on Friday.”

Key players

When you look at Tottenham’s current squad and the make up of it, you have to say these two players are crucial to them doing well.

Van de Ven is a massive presence at the back and his pace allows Tottenham to push forward and press knowing he is at the back with his pace to bail them out.

As for Solanke, he was brought in to not only score goals but lead the press and against Arsenal, he will be crucial.

Put simply, Tottenham probably don’t get anything out of this game if they are without Solanke and Van de Ven.
