'Forget that' - Wenham predicts Tottenham to demand £40m+ for exit-linked star

John Wenham expects Tottenham to demand a transfer fee of £40million-plus for exit-linked star Guglielmo Vicario.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose doesn’t see any club in Italy coughing up the money Tottenham would want for their goalkeeper.

As reported by Calciomercato (14 October), Inter Milan are thought to be interested in Vicario.

Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King believes the club would accept a “ridiculous” offer for the shot-stopper, and Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has speculated what kind of fee that might be.

“Vicario has settled at Spurs now,” he said.

“He’s got the number one shirt, he’s part of the leadership group. Therefore, I don’t think he is one we’d be looking to sell.

“However, like every player in football, he has a price. You’d be looking at £40million-plus.

“No Italian club is going to pay that kind of money. As a result, you can forget that rumour right now. It is as simple as that. I also don’t think Tottenham would actually want to sell him.”

Tottenham to demand £40million-plus for Guglielmo Vicario?

It doesn’t seem likely that Spurs would allow Vicario to leave the club. The 28-year-old has had some problems this season, which has led to calls for Ange Postecoglou to act.

However, his form hasn’t been worrying enough to warrant a sale, and he is still Spurs’ number one.

Therefore, they are unlikely to want to sell the goalkeeper and begin another expensive hunt for his replacement in North London.

In addition, the player is thought to be happy at the club. Instead, it has been speculated that he could look to push to sign a new contract to remain with Spurs.

This would likely be the more favourable outcome for Ange Postecoglou, rather than a sale.

Vicario has shown plenty of potential, and if he can iron out some of his mistakes, he could be a top Premier League goalkeeper for years to come.
