Jesper Lindstrom admits his touches in the Everton versus Southampton Premier League clash at St Mary’s on Saturday “were not great.”
The Toffees took on fellow relegation battlers Southampton on 2 November and failed to capitalise on a golden opportunity to take them further away from the drop zone.
Sean Dyche’s men are now 16th in the top-flight table and are only four points clear of the bottom three.
Speaking after the match, as per the Liverpool Echo (4 November), the Napoli loanee shared his verdict on the Merseyside outfit’s performance against the Saints.
“We want to win games, we want to win points, we want to win games like this. It’s not good enough,” he said.
“Overall we have to demand more of each other. We have to train hard, we have to keep going. The first half especially was not good enough, was not what we expected. We are a much better team than we showed.
“The second half was better we were running more, fighting more, creating chances. I think we deserved at least a point with all the chances but on the other hand, I don’t think we deserved it because I know we can play much better than we did.
“In the first half, we were too far from each other. From my perspective, my touches were not great.
“It was better in the second half. We created good chances receiving the ball high but didn’t have the last part, the shot.”
Everton need to find some consistent Premier League form
The Toffees are currently 16th in England’s top flight and it doesn’t feel like they’re going to be able to move much higher in the table than that, especially if they can’t pull wins out of the bag regularly.
There have been some stellar performances this season from the Merseyside outfit but more often than not, the Toffees have left their fans wanting more.
The goal-scoring form of Dominic Calvert-Lewin hasn’t helped matters much either, but the fact that one player is having an underwhelming season shouldn’t stop other members of the squad from picking up their slack and contributing more.
Granted, the Premier League is one of the toughest leagues in the world and it’s a dog-eat-dog world out there, but it feels like with the quality Dyche has at his disposal, the club should be doing far better.
There have been signs of positive performances on the odd occasion, but if they want to avoid being dragged into another relegation battle, they need to be able to put in consistent performances otherwise they won’t get anywhere.
