Everton have an “ideal scenario” with Sean Dyche planned out over the course of the season, according to Graeme Bailey.
The TBR Football journalist, speaking to Everton.News [30 October], has outlined what he believes the Toffees have strategised for their manager.
Bailey says the club are in no rush to sack Dyche and that relegation is not a pressing concern at Goodison Park, but they looked into potential replacements following the poor start to the season.
“I think obviously with how poor at least two of the relegated teams are, I think relegation isn’t really a concern. They’ll give him until January. We know Dyche clearly still isn’t a long-term one,” he said.
“From what I’m hearing, if they can get through with Dyche until they’re ready to appoint that new name, which should ideally be next summer ahead of the new stadium, then that’s what they’ll do. That’s the ideal scenario for them and that was always the case.
“They were never desperate to get rid of him. The start that the club had was poor and they had to do their due diligence and look into possible options. They’ve got a lot of balls in the air at the moment. They’re happy for Dyche to continue there and guide them to safety.”
Everton have plan for Sean Dyche
It appears from this report as though Everton plan to persist with Dyche until the end of the season before reassessing their options.
This is a smart move considering by this point, The Friedkin Group will be assumed to have had their feet under the boardroom table for a number of months, with a clear plan in place as the club move to Bramley-Moore Dock.
The crisis plan would have been to sack Dyche in January had things continued to go poorly, with a pressing vision of Championship football in the first season in their glitzy new waterfront arena.
But the Toffees have significantly improved their fortunes on the pitch, and while not every performance has been a blessing – the draw with Fulham was a fortuitous point – they are now five unbeaten in the Premier League.
As ever, there is an extensive agenda of things to get through at Everton – but Dyche’s short-term security as manager does not appear to be topping it.
