'Gamble' - Lilywhite Rose reacts as Tottenham identify transfer to address 'desperate need'

John Wenham has suggested Tottenham are in “desperate need” of a left-back to compete with Destiny Udogie.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose believes the club must place trust in their scouts.

It comes after CaughtOffside reported (5 November) that Spurs, Villa and Newcastle United are all interested in Boca Juniors ace Kevin Zenón, who has a £13million release clause in his contract.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – thinks the transfer could make sense.

“I suppose it would be a gamble,” Wenham said.

“However, this is where you need to rely on your scouts. You need to trust that they’ve gone out there and identified the player who is going to make a difference.

“If Zenón has been recommended, and he can play at left-back, then that transfer makes sense.

“We are in desperate need of somebody who can challenge Udogie.”

Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King has already backed the club to sign Zenón to compete with Udogie.

The Italian hasn’t been at his best this season, and a lack of competition for his place could be part of the reason why.

Ben Davies is the only other real recognised left-back in Spurs’ senior squad, but his long-term future looks to lie away from North London. Djed Spence can play on the left but is naturally a right-back.

Meanwhile, Sergio Reguilón has been left out in the cold this season.

As a result, somebody needs to be signed to compete with Udogie.
