Harrison Armstrong is tipped to leave Everton on loan in the January transfer window, but Sean Dyche will now be holding talks to scrap that plan.

The 17-year-old has risen through the ranks at Finch Farm, making four appearances across all competitions for the first team this season.

However, the midfielder is being lined up for a temporary exit next month in an attempt to help him gain experience in senior football [Alan Nixon].

Developments on Wednesday [11 December], though, could leave the Toffees with no option but to make a U-turn on that.

When not with the big boys in the Goodison Park dressing room, Armstrong has continued impressing for the youth teams and that is exactly what he did for Leighton Baines on Wednesday.

The teenager was the standout player as the Under-18s ran rings around Nottingham Forest in a 7-0 win in the FA Youth Cup at Goodison Park.

Starting in an advanced midfield role, as opposed to his usual spot in the middle of the park, Armstrong bagged a hat-trick, making sure the sound of the ball hitting the net was heard wherever Dyche was at the time.

Apart from scoring thrice, he also provided the assist for two of Everton’s four other goals in the game. It included a brilliant flick that set up Joel Catesby for his goal.

The number ten spot has been a problem area for Dyche amid Jesper Lindstrom and Jack Harrison’s poor form. Abdoulaye Doucoure occupied that position against Wolves on 4 December, with Dwight McNeil moving out wide.

Therefore, Dyche should definitely try Armstrong out in that role after seeing his exploits for Baines’ side on Wednesday evening.

The idea to send the youngster out on loan might not be the only transfer plan the Merseyside-based club have to scrap as he could also save them millions in the market.

In other Everton news, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is destined to leave Goodison after the latest development emerged from Newcastle.
