Rangers face an uphill battle to persuade Graham Potter to take the helm should they sack Philippe Clement, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that given the club’s latest financial figures, it would be incredibly hard for the Glasgow club to bring the 49-year-old to Ibrox.
In their latest annual report, Rangers revealed a £17.2million operating loss, despite also reporting record core revenue of £88.3million.
Given the club’s severe financial struggles and the need for a significant squad overhaul to compete with Celtic, Potter is hesitant to take the position.
Potter is reportedly eager to return to management after being dismissed by Chelsea in 2023, but he would prefer to stay in the Premier League.
Graham Potter not interested in Rangers as Philippe Clement hangs on
Rangers are now nine points behind Aberdeen and Celtic in the Scottish Premier League following their devastating 2-1 defeat at Pittodrie on Wednesday (October 30).
The Glasgow club spent just over £14million on 10 new first-team players during the summer transfer window but only recouped £2.5million, primarily from the sale of Sam Lammers to FC Twente.
After receiving substantial backing in the summer transfer window, Clement was given a new four-year deal at the club with his contract now due to expire in June 2024.
