‘He could explode’ - Wenham backs ‘Outstanding’ Tottenham star to step up after injury blow

John Wenham has backed Radu Drăgușin to “explode” at Tottenham in Micky van de Ven’s absence.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose is excited to see what the Romanian can do with van de Ven set for a “frustrating” spell on the sidelines.

Ange Postecoglou confirmed via Spurs’ official website on Friday (1 November) that van de Ven sprained his hamstring during the 2-1 fourth-round Carabao Cup win over Manchester City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday (30 October).

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes this hands Drăgușin an opportunity to establish himself in North London.

“This opens up a window for Drăgușin to come in and play,” Wenham said.

“I thought he was outstanding against Manchester City. Therefore, this is a chance for him to cement himself at Spurs.

“He just needs some confidence, and then I think he could explode as a defender and become very good. I’m quite excited to see him play.”

Radu Drăgușin to “explode” at Tottenham?

Spurs supporters have seen how good Drăgușin can be in glimpses.

However, the 22-year-old has never had a consistent run in the team to establish himself. With van de Ven out for at least a few weeks, this could be that chance for Drăgușin.

He will no doubt slot in alongside Cristian Romero as the starting centre-back, and if the defender plays well enough, it might be difficult for Postecoglou to take him out of the team.

With all the transfer speculation swirling around the Romanian (via Gazzetta dello Sport, 1 November, page 6), this is a chance for him to finally establish himself as a first-team regular at Spurs.
