Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is having the time of his life with England.
The same can’t be said for his captain because Harry Kane‘s struggles continue as Alexander-Arnold racks up the Man of the Match awards.
England beat Finland in the UEFA Nations League on Sunday, with Liverpool‘s academy star scoring a stunning free-kick and also picking up his third Man of the Match award under interim boss, Lee Carsley.
Liverpool fans are used to seeing Alexander-Arnold showcase his magic on the right-hand side, but over the weekend, he was deployed as a left-back.
It didn’t make a difference because the 26-year-old was still his old self, as England put the shambles of losing to Greece behind them by picking up a much-needed three points in the UEFA Nations League.
It’s fair to say that Alexander-Arnold wasn’t exactly a favourite of the now-departed Gareth Southgate and he struggled for the majority of his tenure.
But under Carsley, and after just four matches, he has won three Man of the Match awards which tells you everything you need to know.
One of the main reasons why fans clamour for Alexander-Arnold to start is because of his passing ability and how he is one of the best in the Premier League at it.
But England haven’t had an attack-minded coach who can put the Liverpool technician in such a position where he can play with freedom and express himself.
The player himself would argue that he is the best passer in the team, but a certain Kane, who is also known for his all-round play, will argue otherwise.
When Gary Lineker was discussing Alexander-Arnold’s most recent performance, he made it clear that whilst Kane knows how to find a pass, ‘he still isn’t Trent’, as he told The Rest is Football.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is a better passer than Harry Kane for England
“Fantastic, I saw that, it was absolutely beautiful, wasn’t it,” said Lineker about Trent’s free-kick. “I have Trent’s stats here. One free-kick scored, obviously, 130 touches, 95 passes completed, six accurate long balls, ten passes into the final third, three out of three duals won, four ball recoveries and two clearances.
On if TAA is the best passer in the England team: “As good of a passer as anyone in world football,” added Lineker and Richards stated: “Kane’s not bad though as well when he drops back.”
Lineker argued: “Kane can pass, but he still isn’t Trent.”
Thomas Tuchel to become England’s next manager
After all the talk and speculation, it seems as though England have found their man and a successor to Southgate.
Thomas Tuchel has agreed to become England’s new manager, with the German last in the dugout with Bayern Munich.
The 51-year-old is best known for winning the Champions League with Chelsea, as well as trophy success at Paris Saint-Germian.
But this is going to be, by far, the biggest test and challenge of his career.
