'He knows...' - Dan Bardell predicts 25-year-old to want Tottenham exit amid £15.2m speculation

Dan Bardell believes Tottenham would be willing to let Emerson Royal go this summer if an acceptable offer is made for the AC Milan-linked full-back.

The 25-year-old Brazilian has had an up-and-down time since joining Spurs from Barcelona in 2021 and he is now linked with a move away.

Milan are interested in signing the fullback with the Serie A giants “setting their sights” on a deal worth up to £15.2million [Football Italia].

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell has suggested that it could be a good move for both parties if he was to depart this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Bardell said: “Spurs need to be smart with incomings and outgoings this summer and maybe they can get a good fee for Emerson Royal.

“He’s someone who has been a useful utility player for them this season but doesn’t truly fit into the style of football that Ange Postecoglou wants at full-back.

“For someone who isn’t first choice, if they can recoup a good fee for him I would understand why they would let him go.

“From his perspective, he’d probably be interested in a move because he knows that he’s never going to be first choice.“

Emerson Royal set for Tottenham departure

It is safe to say that Spurs could look to cut ties with Royal if there is a fee on the table that would recoup some of what they paid.

He hasn’t been a great signing realistically and it could prove beneficial for finances as Postecoglou looks to add to his squad this summer.

The likes of Destiny Udogie and Pedro Porro have come in and had immediate positive impacts on the squad where Royal has often struggled.

With AC Milan interested, a clean break could allow Spurs to bring in new players in those positions this summer to bolster the team.

After missing out on Champions League qualification, there needs to be an upward shift next season in an attempt to secure that top-four spot.

Selling players who aren’t good enough or need replacing and getting good fees for them is going to be useful for the balance sheet against PSR rules.
