John Wenham: Tottenham make 'rapid progress' with sales, 'matter of time' before Brit leaves

John Wenham believes Leeds United will face competition to sign Tottenham defender Joe Rodon.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose feels several clubs will be interested in the centre-back after his performances at Elland Road last season.

Rodon spent the 2023/24 campaign on loan with the Whites and established himself as one of the first names on Daniel Farke’s team sheet.

Leeds are reportedly interested in bringing the defender back to the club, with Spurs having opted to extend the Welshman’s contract by another year (via Yorkshire Evening Post, 7 June).

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes Rodon will leave North London one way or another this summer.

“If Leeds don’t sign him, which I still think that they will, there will be several other clubs interested,” Wenham said.

“He did very well in the Championship, and it’s just a matter of time as to when he leaves and what sort of fee Tottenham receive.

“I am quite impressed with Spurs’ outgoings so far. It does seem like all the players we’d like to move on have options.

“It appears that the club are making rapid progress to get the unwanted players out the door before pre-season.”

Ange Postecoglou will be keen for Tottenham defender Joe Rodon to be sold

It is pretty unlikely that Ange Postecoglou will find a place for Rodon at Tottenham.

The Welshman would most likely be fourth or fifth in the pecking order and will be keen to secure regular first-team football elsewhere.

A place where consistent minutes would be guaranteed is Elland Road, and Rodon would likely welcome a return to the club after his time on loan.

A deal already looks to be difficult for Leeds and other clubs getting involved won’t make it any easier.

However, for Tottenham, several interested parties and a bidding war is exactly what Daniel Levy will want.
