'He Should Go' - Pundit baffled by overrated Rangers ace in exit talks after rave reviews

Ridvan Yilmaz should leave Rangers this summer because the Scottish Premiership doesn’t suit him, according to Derek Ferguson.

The Turkish left-back is again being linked to a move away amid transfer talks with Besiktas where former Ibrox boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst is now in charge [Turkiye Gazete, 18 June], having been heavily linked to a return to Turkey in January.

Ferguson believes praise for the defender as he established himself as the first choice last season was overblown and feels the injury-prone 23-year-old doesn’t have the right physicality to play for Philippe Clement so should move on.

“He should go, yes,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.

“Again, it’s just my opinion, but he came into the side at times this season and he played okay.

“Everybody, for some reason, was raving about him. I didn’t quite see it.

“I saw energy. I didn’t see real quality at times. I think he lacks that physicality that the manager likes.

“He’s vulnerable at times at the back post defensively. We need defenders that can defend.

“In the modern day, yeah it’s about getting forward, and he does that, the wee fella.

“But he’s been injured again far too many times, and sometimes this league does not just suit him.“

Ridvan Yilmaz could follow Borna Barisic out of Rangers

Borna Barisic may have already left for Trabzonspor but it wouldn’t be a huge shock to see a second Light Blues left-back head to the Turkish Super Lig this summer.

Jefte has been signed already and if the right offer is put on the table for Yilmaz his manager may well prefer to sign another of his own targets.

The Turk’s injury late in the season contributed to crucial disruption which derailed the title bid and other players with poor records of availability such as Ryan Jack and Kemar Roofe have already been released, as Clement has made clear his dissatisfaction with injury issues at the club.

In other Ranger news, the Light Blues are in pole position to add a “very important” forward.
