Henry Winter spotted Sean Dyche going “absolutely crazy” after Everton threw away a two-goal lead against Aston Villa on Saturday (14 September).
The Toffees were condemned to back-to-back comeback defeats in the Premier League, having taken a 2-0 lead through Dwight McNeil and Dominic Calvert-Lewin before Villa turned the game on its head.
It was a very similar story to their disappointing defeat to Bournemouth, shockingly conceding twice in the four minutes of added time, two results which have mounted pressure on Sean Dyche.
Speaking live via talkSPORT on Sunday (15 September, 9:41am), Winter said: “What was it? 66 years since Everton have lost the first four league games of the season. The positive is that they went 2-0 up.
“The negative is that they didn’t hold onto that. You could see Sean Dyche going absolutely crazy. But they were playing Aston Villa. Most people would have guessed Villa to win by two goals because they’ve got a fantastic manager and Watkins is easing his way back in after a pretty good Euros.”
Sean Dyche feeling the heat after Everton defeat v Aston Villa
Dyche will understand exactly how difficult a position the club are in, sitting rock-bottom of the Premier League table with zero points from four matches.
It seems the manager has very limited to turn the Toffees’ fortunes around, with pressure beginning to build after four straight defeats to Brighton, Tottenham, Bournemouth and Villa.
They have scored just four goals while conceding 13, which is a huge change from how defensively sound the centre-back duo of Jarrad Branthwaite and James Tarkowski were last season.
Dyche’s side conceded just 51 goals last term, with only Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool allowing fewer balls to hit the back of the net, letting in 25 per cent of last season’s record in 10 per cent of their matches so far.
Something needs to change at Goodison Park, and something needs to change extremely quickly if the Toffees are to climb out of the relegation zone.
