Chelsea have spent, spent, spent and carried on spending for the whole world in recent times.
Regardless of the outside noise, Clearlake Capital and Todd Boehly, who are sitting at the top of the tree at Chelsea, have continued to do things their way and their way only.
From Arsenal’s new loan signing Raheem Sterling to the man of the moment Cole Palmer, some transfers just haven’t worked, whilst others have proven to be genius moves.
One thing about Chelsea’s transfer dealings is that it has required a lot of patience because of the type of players they have brought in.
A lot of them are young, so this Chelsea project can’t be properly judged for a few years yet, even though the powers that be have been getting verbal beatings for it.
Given that strategy, it has resulted in several moments of stability being broken, especially with the managers.
From Graham Potter to the current man in the dugout, Enzo Maresca, fans will be hoping that the chopping and changing stops now.
But the man in the dugout last season, Mauricio Pochettino was in the house when the club’s most important signing was made – whether or not he played a part is anyone’s guess.
But Palmer’s transfer from Manchester City to Chelsea is probably one of the best deals any team has concluded in recent times.
Ian Wright feels Palmer‘s move to Stamford Bridge ‘won’t live well in the history of Manchester City’, as he told Premier League Productions (30/09/24 at 1:45 pm).
Cole Palmer’s transfer from Manchester City to Chelsea
“The move from Manchester City to Chelsea is one that won’t live well in the history of Manchester City,” said Wright.
“For him to leave Manchester City, get to Chelsea and perform like he has, whoever spotted that and made that move, has done an unbelievable job, not only for Cole Palmer, but Chelsea as well. I don’t think anybody saw that coming. Nobody saw the form he was going to hit. The calibre of player we are dealing with. His footballing intelligence is somewhere else, he is amazing in that last third. I have never seen him make a poor pass in the last third, then when it comes to finishing, he is absolutely clinical.
“You look at him though, the way he has emerged, what he brings to Chelsea in goals and creativity. If he was a player that didn’t come from Manchester City, then he would be a player Man City would be interested in, surely.”
Is Cole Palmer the best player in the Premier League?
Palmer is probably now the best footballer in the Premier League right now because he has gone up a level since the start of the new campaign.
Many will question how he didn’t start a game for England at Euro 2024, but what was his nation’s loss is his club’s gain.

Palmer didn’t start from the get-go under Pochettino last season and, by the time he did get going, the Christmas lights were up.
You just wonder what difference Palmer will make to Chelsea’s Premier League chances now that he is starting from minute one.
