Chris Sutton has told Everton it is “too early” to sack Sean Dyche and replace him with David Moyes at Goodison Park.

The Toffees extended their winless start to the Premier League season with a 3-2 defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday (14 September) to only further increase the pressure on Dyche from supporters.

Sections of the fanbase have been calling for Moyes to return to Goodison Park after he left West Ham last season but BBC Sport pundit Sutton insists that Dyche deserves more time to turn things around.

Speaking on BBC Radio Five Live’s 606 (14 September, 21:35) he said: “Everton have been a club who have been in a mess for a number of years now.

“The defensive record was something that Sean Dyche certainly through last season sort of hung his hat on. They’re leaking goals for fun, the goal today, we talked about the quality of that.

“The one constant that we are getting from Everton fans is that there are a lot of them who have turned against Sean Dyche, we can’t get away from that fact and David Moyes’ name is inevitable.

“I still think it’s too early Rob.”

Will Everton sack Sean Dyche amid Goodison Park exit rumours?

While Everton supporters will be pining for a change after the Toffees’ grim start to the season, it is hard to see how appointing Moyes would have a drastic impact on events at Goodison Park.

The Scotsman plays a very similar brand of football to Dyche and was heavily criticised by West Ham supporters last season for not getting the best out of the attacking players at his disposal, something the Toffees are all too familiar with.

If the Blues do decide that a change is needed in the dugout, they surely will have to look for a manager with a different style. Otherwise, their decision to sack Dyche would be completely unnecessary.

It seems as though the former Burnley boss will be given time to turn things around at Everton, for now at least. He’ll know that he simply has to start winning games sooner rather than later however, otherwise his position could become untenable.
