‘He’s aware’: £60m player already knows that Tottenham want to sign him

Tottenham Hotspur could make a real splash in this summer transfer window.

Spurs have already signed Archie Gray from Leeds, and that may not be the only exciting signing Spurs make this summer.

Indeed, Tottenham have been linked with a number of intriguing players from within the Premier League and across Europe, and one player Ange Postecoglou’s side are said to be very keen on is Eberechi Eze.

Speaking on Last Word on Spurs, Ben Jacobs has shared an update on Eze’s situation, and he says that Tottenham and Manchester City are the two favourites to sign the England international, claiming that Eze is already aware of Tottenham’s interest in him.

Eberechi Eze is aware of Tottenham’s interest

Jacobs shared what he knows about the £60m man.

“Manchester City and Tottenham are the two front runners at the moment in terms of how active they are,” Jacobs said.

“But you don’t get these deals done if you’re prepared to pay the release clause or match the release clause by advancing club to club. Otherwise, we would have seen some progress. You’ve got to speak to the player.

“And the only way you can do that is by timing it right so as not to distract him and then having a conversation to see where his preference lies.

“From Palace’s perspective, there’s the release clause. So they can never say never, but they’ve lost Olise. There’s interest in Mark Guehi. They don’t want to lose all their stars. They finished the season very positively under an excellent manager in Glasner.

“So the ideal scenario from Palace’s point of view is they’ll reward Eze with new terms and he’ll stay. But as long as that release clause is there and suitors feel it’s at relative market value, there’s not much that Crystal Palace can do.

“So this is probably going to be a late July, early August type thing after the Euros, when he’s had time to consider what he wants to do.

“He’s aware already of the Tottenham interest, but nothing can happen at this point due to Euro 2024.”

Tottenham need to move decisively

Eze already knows that Tottenham want to sign him, and now, Spurs need to act quickly.

As Jacobs says, Man City are also in this race and Palace want to give the player a new contract, so Spurs need to act fast and make sure they win this race before City or Palace can really have much of a say.

Of course, that’s much easier said than done, but Tottenham need to show some serious intent if they want to land Eze this summer.
