'He's Got It In Him' - Pundit view: Powerful Rangers talent to replace senior flop after 'Shame'

Neraysho Kasanwirjo is set to step in and play the role that Rangers expected Robin Propper to fill this season, says Derek Ferguson.

The ex-Ibrox midfielder has been very disappointed with former FC Twente captain Propper, and believes he could be on the way back out again before long, but has seen far more to like from fellow Dutchman Kasanwirjo.

The 22-year-old has made 12 appearances since his arrival at the end of the transfer window, primarily at full-back positions, but has been used centrally after some in-game changes.

While Ferguson believes 36-year-old Leon Balgoun is a preferable option to the struggling Propper, in what is a real shame, he is also an advocate of the youth movement that the side is going through under Philippe Clement.

It was Feyenoord loanee Kasanwirjo who was brought off the bench to replace the Nigerian veteran after an injury in the 2-1 win over Motherwell in the League Cup on 3 November, leaving Propper unhappy on the bench.

And now with Dujon Sterling moving into the line-up for James Tavernier at right-back Ferguson has backed Kasanwirjo to move up the pecking order at centre-back, at the expense of his fellow summer arrival.

He exclusively told Ibrox News: “Yeah. Younger guy, he’s hungry. He’s got the pace, the power, and I think a lot of the Rangers supporters would like to see him.

“And I think there’s few. What we need to bring into that side is a youthfulness as well.

“We’re crying out for Sterling to come into the side, so Kasanwirjo as well.  You’ve got guys like Jefte, guys like [Connor] Barron, [Mohamed] Diomande. You need that sprinkling of youth.

“But certainly Kasanwirjo, with that pace and the power, for me he’s well ahead of Propper.

“I’ve got to say it’s a shame, but even Balogun. Balogun’s 37-years-old but you’d still pick him instead of Propper, so you would.

“Kasanwirjo, to me, the games that he’s played, and he’s played a few positions in terms of full-back, I think he could go and slot in there at centre-back, I think he’s got it in him.”
