Keith Hackett praised Michael Salisbury for showing Crystal Palace star Daichi Kamada a red card during their 2-0 loss against Fulham on Saturday (9 November).
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA and Premier League official warned players that they have “got to understand they have a duty of care towards their opponent.”
The 28-year-old midfielder received a straight red card in the 76th minute of the game after a foul on Kenny Tete, leaving the Eagles with 10 men.
Palace could not get back into the game and lost 2-0 after goals from Emile Smith Rowe and Harry Wilson.
Kamada will now be unavailable for Palace’s next three Premier League fixtures after the international break, missing games against Aston Villa, Newcastle and Ipswich.
Keith Hackett warns Crystal Palace star Daichi Kamada he has a ‘duty of care’
Hackett told Football Insider, “Yes, correct call.
This is very similar to the [Reo] Hatate challenge in Scotland, which wasn’t given this weekend.
“The player has gone onto the ground and is out of control, he can’t stop and can’t move away from the challenge.
“He’s effectively gone over the top of the ball.
“This is well detected by the referee and the red card is the right call.
“Players have got to understand they have a duty of care towards their opponent.”
