Highly-rated Rangers player set to sign four-year contract - report

Rangers youngster Mason Munn is on the verge of signing a new four-year contract, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper reported on 26 June that the 18-year-old is in the mix to become the third-choice goalkeeper next season at Ibrox, and is set to pen a new deal until 2028.

Munn is yet to make his first-team debut at Ibrox having signed for the club from Glentoran in 2022, but has trained alongside Jack Butland throughout last season [Glasgow World, 2 May].

Goalkeeping merry-go-round could benefit Mason Munn

If there’s one position in which Philippe Clement isn’t short of options during his vast overhaul of the existing squad, it’s between the sticks, with a whole host of alternative options to Butland.

The 30-year-old is Clement’s undisputed first choice having started all but one of the Gers’ matches in all competitions last season, so the biggest battle between the other goalkeepers is to secure a spot on the bench [TeamTalk, 10 May].

Mason Munn will hope to emulate Jack Butland at Rangers in the coming years.

Liam Kelly’s imminent arrival on a free transfer from Motherwell is a like-for-like replacement with Robby McCrorie seemingly certain to depart, while Kieran Wright has also been the third choice for the last few seasons [Sky Sports, 22 May].

Munn’s emergence for the academy and performances in the Scottish Youth Cup suggest his stocks are high with the hierarchy, and that could see him disrupt the established order of goalkeepers in the coming months.

Only a surprise transfer for Butland would force a shake-up in Clement’s thinking ahead of the new campaign, but Munn’s main goal will be to slowly move his way up the pecking order over the next few years.

In other Rangers news, the Gers could cash in on Ridvan Yilmaz this summer as a free agent update emerges at Ibrox.
