Hijack bid inbound at Rangers as new club set to make Tavernier offer - report

Besiktas are lining up an official transfer offer to Rangers for captain James Tavernier, according to Takvim.

The Turkish outlet reported via their website on 20 July that Giovanni van Bronckhorst wants to reunite with his former Gers defender and has given the club’s hierarchy a positive report on the 32-year-old.

Besiktas need a new right-back and technical staff have no turned their attentions to the Light Blues star as their bosses assess his value and how much to bid.

Tavernier has already been subject of a bid from Turkish Super Lig rivals Trabzonspor who are themselves set to return with an improved offer [Daily Record, 19 July], with personal terms already agreed [Takvim, 19 July].

Philippe Clement ready to move on from Rangers captain

Rangers and Trabzonspor have been quibbling over a €1million difference in valuation for the right-back [£843,000], Sports Digitale journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu reported on 18 July.

So if Besiktas are now set to enter the race then it should help push the value of a deal up to the level that the Light Blues hierarchy deem acceptable.

There also remains the possibility that it could even end up going higher than that as English clubs are also said to be showing interest in a deal for the record goalscoring defender [Scottish Sun, 19 July].

Rangers captain James Tavernier looks set to be subject of a bidding war to leave the club.

It is highly likely that Rangers won’t truly appreciate what the Englishman has offered until it is no longer there but now the decision appears to have been made to bring his time at Ibrox to an end it would be beneficial for a deal to be done sooner rather than later.

Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen have seen their transfer business frustrated as they attempt to move on prominent names before they bring in further signings.

So a speedy auction to sell the captain at a good price would be ideal, especially if it then links to more of the same for the likes of Cyriel Dessers and Connor Goldson.

In other Rangers news, another exit-linked senior ace could be kept at Ibrox this summer after an “emotional” new verdict.
