Sean Dyche’s days are numbered at Everton following their “horrendous” start to the new season, according to Tony Scott.

Speaking on Sky Sports News (18 September, 5:17pm), the Liverpool Echo journalist said that Dyche could be sacked if the Toffees lose a fifth Premier League game in a row this weekend against Leicester City.

The Toffees have lost all four of their Premier League matches so far this season, conceding 13 goals in the process, and exited the EFL Cup on penalties to fellow strugglers Southampton on 17 September.

Scott said: “When results are bad, and the football’s bad, obviously all targets are aimed at the manager because it’s not good enough.

“I’d say probably 60, 70 per cent [of fans] would be in favour of finishing with Sean Dyche – if he loses against Leicester, I think his days are numbered.

“Last season, they kept their noses above water, they stayed up – but this season’s been absolutely horrendous.

“They’re bottom of the stats for every single table you want to see – it’s not attractive, and when it’s not attractive and you’re not getting results, there’s only one ultimate question really.”

Sean Dyche’s days numbered at Everton?

It’s rare that the fifth game of any league season is shaping up to be a must-win, particularly one with 102 points still to play for, but the Toffees’ poor start makes their clash with Leicester absolutely vital.

A cruel mixture of off-field uncertainty and a relentless injury crisis have combined to give Dyche a threadbare, thrown-together squad at Goodison Park, leading to four league defeats on the bounce.

Shipping 13 goals inside just four matches is the most alarming contrast compared to the solidity-first side Dyche led to survival last season, dropping from the league’s fourth-best defence to its worst.

After four games, the Blues have already conceded almost a quarter of the 51 they let in throughout the entirety of the last campaign, and an inability to turn this around will see Dyche shown the door.

With potential new owners already eyeing up replacements [Alan Nixon, 8 September], Dyche faces arguably his toughest period in the Goodison Park dugout, and needs to find a way out of the rut his side have fallen into.

In other Everton news, Dean Saunders has given his verdict on the current injury crisis at Goodison Park live on TalkSPORT.
