'How on earth?' - Jeff Stelling moots 'Massive' financial issues at Rangers after what Clement said

Jeff Stelling has been left extremely worried by Philippe Clement’s admission following Rangers’ 0-0 draw against Hearts on Saturday (3 August).

Following the clash at Tynecastle, the Gers manager admitted that his squad is “probably not better” than what he had at the end of last season, which has done nothing to calm the nerves at Ibrox.

Stelling could not believe the manager, especially with the “massive” financial issues currently holding the club back at Ibrox.

Speaking live via talkSPORT on Monday (5 August, 6:58 am), Stelling said: “The manager has said that the squad is no better than last season, and it just worries me.

“Financially, they’ve got massive issues as well. How on earth can they close the gap on Celtic?”

Rangers have massive financial issues at Ibrox

The opening match of the Scottish Premiership campaign is far too early for fans to begin panicking, even despite quite a poor set of pre-season results.

While a point against Hearts at Tynecastle will not have been the most ideal start to the season, Clement will be happy to walk away with that, especially if he believes he has yet to make improvements to his squad.

Due to the shoestring budget at Ibrox, Clement and Nils Koppen have been working tirelessly to find free agents and loan deals who can bring something important to Scotland this summer.

However, the starting XI that faced the Jam Tarts on Saturday included just one new signing, Connor Barron, with Vaclav Cerny, Liam Kelly and Jefte all on the bench.

Robin Propper, Clinton Nsiala and Hamza Igamane were all unavailable, and with Todd Cantwell not in the side, and Connor Goldson leaving for Aris Limassol, Clement could be right in his assumption.

Hopefully, these massive financial issues do not come back to haunt the club.
