Rangers winger Vaclav Cerny has admitted he feels ready to start for the Light Blues in the Champions League qualifier against Dynamo Kyiv.
The Wolfsburg loanee made his first start in a Gers shit in Philippe Clement’s side’s 2-1 win over Motherwell on Saturday (10 August) with his first-half strike proving to be the winner at Hampden Park.
Clement has admitted that Rangers will have to manage Cerny’s minutes given his lack of recovery time over the summer and while the winger knows it will be his manager’s call, he has made his feelings obvious.
As quoted by the Rangers Review on Sunday (11 August) he said: “I feel ready to start every single game, if you ask me.
“I just want to use those two days we have now to recover and get in shape again, and I’m going to do my best to be ready. It’s on the manager, obviously, but I’ll do my best to be ready.
“Getting into the Champions League is something I really want to achieve with this club, with those guys in the dressing room.
“There is just one wish, and that’s to get there, and we will do all we can to manage to go through. It’s the second leg, and they know how we want to play, we know how they play, so let’s prepare for it.”
Vaclav Cerny drops fitness update after Rangers summer transfer
While Clement won’t want to risk overplaying Cerny and potentially risking him picking up an injury, the winger’s display at Hamdpen and off the bench against Kyiv showed that he simply has to start again on Tuesday (13 August) night.
He has something that no other wide men in Clement’s squad have and that is the ability to produce a genuine quality ball into the penalty area, as he did in the final knockings of the game in Poland.
Partner that with the fact that he carries an individual goal threat as well and it makes his selection a no-brainer for the second leg. The Gers have to win on Tuesday and they have a better chance of doing that with Cerny in the team.
Hopefully, Clement will take the risk and start the Czech international from the off. If his minutes need managing, he can either come off in the second half or be rested for the League Cup clash with St Johnston.
