Rangers have been busy so far in the transfer window, but with the August deadline fast approaching there are still a few more additions to be made at Ibrox.
Philippe Clement’s squad is probably just stronger than it was last term, with the signings of Vaclav Cerny and Robin Propper adding some much-needed depth and experience over the last couple of weeks.
However, one man the Light Blues are still missing slightly is Abdallah Sima who shone whilst on loan in Glasgow last term but has returned to Brighton with his future on the south coast unclear.
Clement has admitted that he wants to bring the Senegal international back to Scotland this summer, but currently, Rangers have not been able to meet the Seagulls’ asking price to get the deal over the line [Rangers Review, 15 July].
The deal isn’t completely off of the table, with Rangers Review journalist Chris Jack (8 August) suggesting that there is still a chance that it could be completed before the transfer window slams shut later this month.
Will Abdallah Sima exit Brighton amid Rangers transfer rumours?
Rangers’ hopes of a Sima transfer may have been boosted even further after new developments emerged at Brighton during their pre-season fixture against Villareal on Saturday (10 August).
The attacker was nowhere to be seen in either the Seagulls’ starting XI or the substitute bench for their final pre-season fixture which suggests he isn’t really in Fabian Hurzeler’s plans heading into the new campaign.
If the manager has taken a look at him in pre-season and decided he isn’t ready to play a regular role in the Premier League, he could well be willing to sanction his exit either on a loan or permanent basis.
That news will have come as a major boost to Clement and Nils Koppen as it suggests there is a deal there to be agreed, if the Light Blues can somehow find a way to meet the Seagulls’ valuation sooner rather than later.
With a few more high-profile exits expected to be completed before the end of the window in Glasgow, the Gers may be able to raise enough money and free up some space on the wage bill to get a deal done.
In other Rangers news, one pundit has suggested that James Tavernier’s heart is no longer at Ibrox after “astonishing” developments
