'I heard...' – Alan Myers: Everton new signing out for seven weeks

Everton loanee Armando Broja is expected to miss roughly seven weeks of action following his last-gasp move from Chelsea, according to Alan Myers.

The Sky Sports News journalist posted on X (31 August) in response to question about the Deadline Day signing of Broja, who arrives from Chelsea on a season-long loan with an option to buy of £30million [Sky Sports, 31 August].

While hopeful that Broja, who arrives at Goodison Park nursing an injury expected to keep him out until October [David Ornstein, 31 August], would return soon, Myers was hesitant to say whether or not the striker will be a good signing.

In his post, Myers said, “Hope he’s not out (for) too long, I heard about seven weeks – not really seen enough of him to know how he’ll do.”

The Toffees may have endured a difficult – to say the least – start to the new Premier League season on the field, but with the potentially permanent acquisition of Broja, they might just have played a blinder.

Goals have been at a premium at Goodison Park so far this season, with Michael Keane and Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s against Bournemouth on 31 August being their first of the league campaign.

However, with Calvert-Lewin, Beto and now Broja on the books, Sean Dyche now has three out-and-out centre-forward options to choose from as his side look to turn their early-season form around.

Broja is a player the Toffees have been keen on throughout the summer [AS, 12 June], and with Calvert-Lewin’s future still up in the air despite the transfer window closing, may just have found their natural successor.

The Blues’ financial situation, coupled with the prospect of losing Calvert-Lewin for free in 2025, may temper their availability to sign Broja permanently, but if he’s fit and firing them to Premier League safety, £30m will be much easier to come by.
