'I hope': Alan Shearer delivers Gary O'Neil verdict as he predicts Wolves v Man City result

Wolverhampton Wanderers have arguably the toughest fixture in the Premier League calendar coming up as they prepare to host Manchester City on Sunday.

Gary O’Neil’s charges have really struggled this season, picking up just one point in the league and sitting bottom of the table.

Wolves will host the four-in-a-row English champions at Molineux, and there aren’t many pundits who are predicting an upset against the visitors.

Alan Shearer has shared his prediction on the Wolves v Man City game, and also delivered his verdict on O’Neil and whether he deserves more time at the helm.

Alan Shearer predicts Man City win over Wolves but hopes Gary O’Neil gets more time

Shearer, writing on Metro, backed Man City to get all three points, though he did not provide a scoreline.

The Premier League legend also said he hoped O’Neil would get more time at Molineux, based on how well he did last season.

“Wolves are under huge pressure after a poor start to the season,” began Shearer.

“This is not the fixture you want to see when you are desperate for your first win of the season.

“I can’t see them taking anything from the game – City will get the three points.”

Shearer continued: “You have to look at the bigger picture for Gary O’Neil.

“If teams are showing promise and being unlucky, then that’s one thing.

“But if you look at a team and they’ve got no pattern, no understanding or confidence, then you must judge that.

“However, with what he did at Wolves last season, I hope he has got a little bit of time on his side and gets the chance to pull Wolves out of trouble.”

Wolves v Man City team news

On top of the on-pitch struggles, O’Neil is also having to deal with a mounting injury crisis at Molineux.

Yerson Mosquera, Boubacar Traore, Enso Gonzalez, Sasa Kalajdzic and Hwang Hee-Chan are all likely to miss the game for Wolves.

Man City, meanwhile, will remain without Kevin De Bruyne and Nathan Ake after their recent injuries, while Rodri and Oscar Bobb are long-term absentees.
