'I would try' - Stevie Clifford tells Rangers to offer short-term deal to free agent attacker

Stevie Clifford has told Rangers to try and sign Ryan Kent on a short-term contract after developments at Fenerbache.

The former Light Blues winger has seen his contract terminated with the German giants after a mutual agreement was reached, with Philippe Clement’s side reportedly on transfer alert [Scottish Sun, 17 October].

While it is unclear whether or not the Gers are at all interested in re-signing the English winger after this latest update, Four Lads host Clifford believes a deal could be the right fit for the Gers at this stage.

Writing on X on Thursday (17 October) he said: “She’s got a point. Short-term contract, I would try also.

“That’s the beauty of opinions.”

Will Ryan Kent return to Rangers and Ibrox amid transfer rumours?

It certainly raised lots of questions when Kent initially left Rangers a few years ago.

Most fans were frustrated the Gers had failed to cash in on one of their more exciting talents but also disappointed that the former Liverpool man’s contract wasn’t extended.

His exit at Fenerbache has certainly opened the door to make a new approach for the Englishman’s signature as a free agent, but that doesn’t mean that Clement and his recruitment team will be in any rush to get a deal done.

Stevie Clifford has urged Rangers to make a move for Ryan Kent this season

The suggestion from within Ibrox so far this season has been that the Light Blues don’t plan on adding to their squad before the January transfer window [Chris Jack, 6 October] but as Gers fans will know, things can change very quickly in the world of football.

If the right deal can be struck between Kent and Rangers, the club would be naive to not at least consider making a move to bring the winger back to Ibrox.

It will be interesting to see whether or not anything comes of the initial links that have emerged north of the border so far.
