Ian Darke has backed Sean Dyche to turn the tide once again at Goodison amid reports linking Everton with potential replacements.

Dyche and the club are set to be buoyed by the takeover deal between Farhad Moshiri and the Friedkin Group, with consortium leader Dan Friedkin expected to show his backing towards the experienced boss [GiveMeSport, 23 September].

Darke has responded to recent sack talk by claiming the former Burnley manager is “the right guy” to have at the helm at Goodison Park, citing his nous in recent seasons.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, the iconic commentator said: “Dyche should have the full backing of the board – I think he’s the right guy.

“If you look back to last season with all the rows that were had over the points deductions, they would’ve finished mid-table without them, even with all that going on in the background and the fact they could hardly score a goal.

“I think their performances this season have been a little bit better than their points return, and Dyche remains the right man moving forward.”

Darke’s comments last week on how John Textor was discussing his hypothetical working relationship with Darke echoed many supporters on Merseyside, who thought the American was acting unjustly.

Friedkin is set to take a more favourable view of the Toffees chief, a show of faith which could pay dividends later in the season.

Given Dyche’s track record with survival battles – which is what Everton are hugely likely to be involved in for a third year – it could come across as overzealous from Friedkin if he was to shun Dyche so early into his prospective ownership.

Instability is often costly for clubs when they are culling managers at a rapid rate – often the issues on the pitch reflect something deeper, and that can certainly be applied to Everton, a club crying out for what could be considered a “boring” season.

Ahead of the club’s exciting move across to the Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium, every part of the Toffees need to be on the same page, to ensure as seamless a transition as possible.
