Ian Ladyman makes Everton 'Crisis Club' admission after Goodison Park draw v Fulham

Everton are no longer the “crisis club” of the Premier League after recent developments at Goodison Park, according to Ian Ladyman.

The Toffees moved five points clear of the relegation zone with a 1-1 draw against Fulham at Goodison Park on Saturday (26 October) to extend their unbeaten run in the Premier League to five matches.

Although the Blues remain in touching distance of the dropzone, Daily Mail journalist Ladyman believes Sean Dyche’s decision to sure things up in defence has ended relegation fears at Goodison Park.

Speaking on It’s All Kicking Off (29 October, 10:00) he said: “The point I was making about Everton and I’ll make it now is that there is a different way to do it.

“It does frustrate me a little bit when you look at the promoted teams this season and the overplaying. Too much intricate football, what I sometimes don’t understand is why promoted clubs don’t look at the example of the clubs who have come up and stayed up and realised it’s about having a solid foundation.

“Look at the way Everton have done it. Everton started this season dreadfully as we know, lost at home to Brighton, lost to Tottenham, and lost at home to Bournemouth. They conceded 13 goals in their first four league games this season, they’ve subsequently conceded three in their next five.

“That is what has got them to a position of relative comfort where they currently sit. They are no longer the crisis club of the Premier League because they’ve found a way to be solid.”

Will Everton sack Sean Dyche amid Goodison Park exit speculation?

Dyche has come in for plenty of criticism so far this season, but the Toffees boss does deserve credit for making his side so hard to beat over the last few weeks.

As Ladyman suggests, the Blues have gone from leaking goals on a regular basis with some embarrassing defensive displays to having one of the best backlines in the Championship that is proving hard to breach.

While the football may not be particularly exciting under the former Burnley boss, it is effective and that is the most important thing, especially when you’re looking to dodge the drop.

Partner that with the impending takeover at Goodison Park and it does feel as though the feeling of crisis has all but vanished on Merseyside. Hopefully, a bright new era is looming on the horizon after a difficult start to the season.

Whether that new era includes Dyche or not, only time will tell but he has well and truly staked his claim for another contract.
