Ibrahima Konate and Conor Bradley injury updates after Liverpool beat Real Madrid
There was concern for the Liverpool defenders.
Arne Slot could not confirm how serious the injuries to Ibrahima Konate and Conor Bradley were after Liverpool’s win over Real Madrid, but was hopeful both will be fit this weekend against Manchester City.
It was a great night for the Reds as they beat the Spanish giants 2-0 thanks to goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo.
Slot’s team are sitting pretty at the top of the Champions League table after five wins from five games with their season going sensationally well as they are also top of the Premier League.
However, there was bad news as Bradley limped out of the game on 87 minutes, seemingly with a hamstring issue, while Konate was on the pitch at the end of the game and receiving treatment.
Asked if he knew what the injury problems were, Slot told a post-match press conference: ‘No. Not yet. I know where they have pain but how bad or how good it is is difficult to judge so close after the game.
‘But this is what happens during the season. We missed Trent [Alexander-Arnold] today, we missed [Diogo] Jota today, we missed Alisson [Becker] today. We didn’t miss Trent because he was on the bench, but he couldn’t play from the start. Kostas [Tsimikas] we missed. This happens through the season.
‘I’m really hoping both of them are available to play [against Manchester City on Sunday] because we want them all available. But if not, someone else has to step up.
‘Until now this season everybody that I’ve selected to start have shown up. That’s also what’s going to happen on Sunday if they can play, but also if they can’t play then other ones can step up.’
Speaking to TNT Sports about the famous win and Liverpool’s brilliant start to the season, Slot said: ‘You know how special it is to play against a team that has won the Champions League so many times.
‘They were a pain for Liverpool for many years too. It is a big week and it is pleasing to see.
‘I didn’t have schedule in terms of amount of points I wanted. You want to implement the playing style as soon as possible. That is not difficult because it wasn’t that different to Jurgen’s. It is great to see not only the starters but the players coming on are doing as we expect. If before the season I had counted points for this point in the season I wouldn’t have done as much as we have now.
‘Every time Real Madrid threatened us was from us. I think we can play with more intensity and better with the ball.’
