Ibrox View: Clement forced to rethink exit decision after what 34k-a-week Rangers ace did today

Rabbi Matondo continues to show small bursts of his talent on the pitch despite many calling for the Rangers winger to be sold before August 30.

The 23-year-old has experienced a tough life in Scotland so far, having joined from Schalke in the summer of 2022, and only making 64 appearances to date.

Before Saturday’s (24 August) clash between the Gers and Ross County, the Welshman had notched just six goals and 10 assists in Light Blue, leading to much frustration amongst the fans at Ibrox.

His performance against the Staggies is likely to cause even more frustration, and not because he was hopeless on the field, but because he was on absolute fire at Hampden Park.

Matondo bagged a brace and assisted goals for Cyriel Dessers and Tom Lawrence in a 6-0 romping of Ross County, showing exactly what he is capable of on the left flank, and it may cause Clement to rethink his transfer plans.

Rangers to keep Rabbi Matondo despite recent exit links?

Blackburn Rovers could be the Welshman’s destination this summer, according to the Daily Record, with the Championship club emerging as the only concrete club to sign the player.

However, the deal would be a season-long loan at Ewood Park with the Gers covering a significant percentage of his wage, and with the player reportedly earning £34,000-per-week [Open Goal YouTube channel], it seems pointless to send him away temporarily.

That, paired with the winger’s Man of the Match performance at Hampden Park on Saturday, Clement and Nils Koppen could take a very different approach with the player, and give him a more important role this season.

Oscar Cortes is still sidelined, and with limited left-wingers in the squad, Matondo could thrive under new pressure if the manager is willing to give him another chance at Ibrox.

In other Rangers news, Tom Lawrence may not be committed to the Gers after what has been seen.
