Ibrox View: Clement may face new problem at Ibrox after what 'Superb' Rangers man did v Dundee

Rangers and Philippe Clement will have been relieved to mark their return to Ibrox in winning fashion against Dundee.

The Light Blues brushed past Tony Docherty’s side to book their place in the Scottish League Cup semi-finals with a comfortable 3-0 win on Saturday (22 September).

To a player, the Gers were impressive. Cyriel Dessers stole the majority of the plaudits as he scored his fifth and sixth goals of the season in all competitions on either side of the halftime break.

However, another Rangers star that impressed both pundits and supporters alike was Jefte, who started and was “superb” as he played the full 90 minutes at left-back on Saturday evening [David Edgar, 21 September].

The Brazilian’s excellent form since arriving at Ibrox has been a massive boost to Clement’s side so far this season, but it could well hand the Gers manager a new problem in the coming weeks.

What has happened to Ridvan Yilmaz at Rangers and Ibrox?

Jefte has almost made himself undroppable with his displays so far this term and that could cause a bit of a stir when Ridvan Yilmaz finally returns from injury.

The Turkish defender hasn’t featured for Clement’s side since their Champions League qualifying clash with Dynamo Kyiv, but prior to his injury, he was a regular starter under the Belgian.

While it is still unclear when the 23-year-old may be fit to feature for the Light Blues again, Clement did confirm ahead of Saturday afternoon’s clash with Dundee that the defender was back in individual training.

Unless the Gers boss can find a way to include both players in his starting XI, it is hard to see how Yilmaz can force his way back into the fold when Jefte has been so impressive this term.

The Brazilian is capable of playing a more advanced role as a left-winger but with Nedim Bajrami, Oscar Cortes, Ross McCausland, Rabbi Matondo and Vaclav Cerny all competing to start in that position, it is unlikely that Jefte will be preferred.

At the moment, it seems as though the most likely outcome will be that Yilmaz has to take his place on the bench and bide his time until Jefte either suffers a dip in form or picks up a knock.

No player likes to be left stuck on the bench and the Turkish defender is unlikely to be any different if he does end up playing second fiddle to his Brazilian counterpart.
