Ibrox View: Clement may have made final mistake as Rangers XI v Motherwell confirmed

Philippe Clement has decided to leave Mohamed Diomande out of his starting XI once again as Rangers face Motherwell in the Scottish League Cup semi-final on Sunday.

The midfielder was left on the bench for the Gers’ 2-1 defeat to Aberdeen last time out, with some fans expecting him to best rested for the cup semi-final, but he is nowhere to be seen [Official X account].

Connor Barron, Nico Raskin and Tom Lawrence will be expected to form the midfield against Motherwell on 3 November, with Neraysho Kasanwirjo and Ross McCausland the only changes to the lineup.

This sees Jefte and Vaclav Cerny come into the side, both of whom deserve a spot in the semi-final clash at Hampden Park, but Diomande will be wondering what he has done to deserve a spot on the bench.

Clement is running out of time to prove to the fans that he can make a positive difference at Ibrox, with fans only becoming more frustrated by the run of results under his leadership.

While the Gers have fallen nine points behind Celtic and Aberdeen at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, all focus is on the Scottish League Cup semi-final, a game which could see him sacked.

Leaving Diomande out of the midfield could, in turn, be the last mistake he makes at the helm, with the water continuing to rise around his ankles at Ibrox.

The 23-year-old has started seven of the Light Blues’ 10 league games so far this season, often producing a match-winning moment with a goal or an assist, or even a last-ditch tackle.

If the Gers are to lose to the Dossers at Hampden Park, it has already been marked as a potential defining moment in Clement’s career at Ibrox. Fans have certainly made their feelings known.

In other Rangers news, Gary Keown has been left baffled as Philippe Clement continually starts one player at Ibrox, “Astonishing”.
