Philippe Clement might consider swapping Jefte for the more defensively-minded Neraysho Kasanwirjo as Rangers face Kilmarnock next.
The two sides are set to go head-to-head at Rugby Park on Sunday 20 October, straight after the international break, and the Gers will be hoping to close the gap on Celtic and Aberdeen.
Clement’s side heads into the two-week break following a comfortable 2-0 win over St Johnstone, at least it was until Ianis Hagi’s red card, maintaining a five-point gap to the league leaders.
While the Gers have little to complain about in terms of performance, Clement will be striving for excellence, and that could see Jefte removed from the starting XI ahead of the next game.
Despite being described as a “menace” during the 90 minutes [Rangers News], flying up and down the right flank, he was far too careless in possession of the ball.
Philippe Clement to axe Jefte ahead of Rangers v Kilmarnock
Killie have been known to cause a stir when facing the Gers, scoring in each of the last six meetings and even claiming one victory in that time.
Knowing this, Clement will be under no illusion that the Gers have an easy Scottish Premiership clash after the international break, and his defence must be solid.
Against the Saints, his Brazillian left-back was dispossessed on four separate occasions while a number of the opposition players only lost possession twice [FotMob].
While he did win 100 per cent of his tackles (2/2) and made six recoveries, Jefte won just 18 per cent of his ground duels – losing 9 out of 11 – and could only win 33 per cent of his aerial duels.
Neraysho Kasanwirjo is much less likely to allow this to happen. On his only start in Light Blue, against Malmo in the Europa League, the Dutchman won 100 per cent of his tackles and aerial duels and was dispossessed zero times [FotMob].
Of course, Jefte would be hugely disappointed if Clement were to make this decision but it would also not entirely be a surprise due to the left-back’s carelessness in possession.
