Ianis Hagi has sent a message of thanks to the Ibrox crowd after featuring in Rangers’ 2-0 win over St Johnstone on Sunday (6 October).

The 25-year-old had not played a minute for the Gers since August 2023, having gone on loan to La Liga side Deportivo Alaves and being greeted with a strange contract situation upon his return.

Having begun his cameo in brilliant style, assisting one of Vaclav Cerny’s two goals on the night, he was then sent off for a high challenge on Benjamin Kimpioka, putting an end to his exciting return.

Taking to Instagram Stories on Monday (7 October), Hagi wrote: “Ibrox, thank you. I will forever be grateful for last night’s reception.”

Every fan could see exactly what it meant to Hagi to be back out on the Ibrox pitch after so many months away, much like how an injured player reacts to becoming fit again.

It is a massive shame that his cameo ended with a red card, with Hagi by no means a malicious player, clearly meaning no harm to the Saints striker in the moment.

Clement knew how big of a blow it was for the Romanian international, with the manager hugging him as he trudged off the turf while being applauded by the Ibrox faithful.

Luckily for the player, there is still the majority of the 2024/25 campaign left to play, but he will be forced to sit out after his yellow card was upgraded to a red, which has been deemed controversial.

Other than the sending-off, it was a really positive night at Ibrox for Clement’s side, who go into the international break just five points behind Celtic and Aberdeen, who lead the way in the Scottish Premiership.

In other Rangers news, Keith Jackson believes Philippe Clement may have made a statement about one of his stars, who needs to be axed.
