Ibrox view: Clement must make tough Rangers call on 'Terrible' star after incident v Hibs

Philippe Clement must give Ross McCausland an extended run in the first team after Vaclav Cerny clashed with Rangers fans in the 1-0 win against Hibernian.

The winger was also slammed for his “terrible” work on the ball before the Czechia forward reacted negatively to the Ibrox crowd on Sunday [29 September].

Clement has kept the supporters guessing with his team selections this season but, Cerny has given the boss the easiest decision he will make all season with McCausland and Nedim Bajrami ready to capitalise.

Ross McCausland should replace Vaclav Cerny for Rangers

Cerny has become one of the regulars at Ibrox this season following his loan move from Wolfsburg.

However, all his hard work was wiped out in one moment as the Rangers faithful made their feelings known about another underwhelming outing from the forward.

The 26-year-old should have been grateful to be handed the start against Hibs, his “unbelievable” miss against Malmo would have been enough for most managers to drop the forward, considering his replacement, McCausland scored the decisive goal.

While Cerny’s outburst can be deemed as passion, it was downright stupidity to act out to the Rangers fans who merely wanted to see more from the flat performance unfolding at Ibrox and now the loanee has a mountain to climb to redeem himself in the eyes of the supporters.

McCausland and Cerny have gone punch for punch in goal contributions this season with one goal and assist each in all competitions however, the 21-year-old has faced a losing battle against his teammate so far and will arguably get no better opportunity to establish himself as a regular starter for Clement.

Bajrami should return to the starting line-up after his snub, the pair could form an exciting partnership on the flanks should Cerny be handed an enforced absence but with the Albanian the more likely to retain his starting spot once the dust settles, McCausland will have it all to prove in Glasgow.

It would be wise for the boss to take Cerny out of the firing line against Lyon on Thursday [3 October], another performance similar to the weekend, and the whole of Ibrox will come down on the forward like a tonne of bricks.

In other Rangers news, Philippe Clement faces tricky Gers team selection decisions ahead of the ‘huge’ clash against Lyon.
