Ianis Hagi will not feature for Rangers between now and the January transfer window despite failing to secure an exit, according to Chris Jack.
The Romanian international has spent the start of the season training with the Gers’ B-Team with Philippe Clement confirming that he doesn’t view him as part of his plans at Ibrox this season.
Hagi recently took to social media to distance himself from Giovanni Becali after the Romanian discussed his future at Ibrox but despite this statement, Jack expects him to remain an outcast in Glasgow.
Speaking on The Rangers Review YouTube channel (9 September, 16:30) he said: “I don’t think we’ll see him in a Rangers jersey, certainly not a first-team Rangers jersey.
“You may see him in the B Team between now and the January transfer window but he’s not going to feature for football and financial reasons.
“It’s time for Ianis to get his head down, and work through whatever training schedule he’s going to work through and I’m assuming that will be by himself rather than with the Rangers first team squad.”
Will Ianis Hagi exit Rangers amid Ibrox transfer speculation?
While it is understandable that Clement may not want to reintegrate Hagi into his first-team side footballing and financial reasons, it does feel as though that could be a mistake now that he hasn’t been sold this summer.
Supporters seem to be divided over whether or not the Romanian international would bolster the Light Blues’ ranks with some still insisting that he would be a more reliable number 10 than Tom Lawrence.
Whether or not that is true, it does seem strange that the Gers are willingly paying the attacking midfielder each and every week and are happy to do so until January, without getting any value on the pitch.
From both a business and footballing sense that feels like an odd decision but the financial aspect of him receiving a potential wage hike if he makes more first-team appearances does throw a spanner in the works [Daily Record, 13 August].
Ultimately, while this situation remains unresolved it is going to rumble on in the background which is much better news for Hagi than it is for the Gers.
