Rangers have had a quieter-than-expected start to the summer transfer window, but it feels as though more movement is coming in and out of Ibrox.
Connor Goldson is set to play his first game for Aris Limassol [Rangers Review, 28 July] Todd Cantwell has requested to leave the Gers and speculation continues to circle around James Tavernier’s future in Glasgow.
Another star linked with the Ibrox exit this summer has been Cyriel Dessers, with reports suggesting the Nigerian forward is available for the right price as Philippe Clement continues his summer rebuild [Rangers Review, 3 July].
The striker has previously suggested he wants to remain a Rangers player and following the pre-season clash with Union Berlin, he may have dropped another hint about his future in Scotland.
Speaking to the Rangers Review (28 July) he said: “If I look around the dressing room there is a lot of quality and experience.
“Some guys went, but some guys have come in as well. If you see Connor Barron, how he played in the last games, he’s making good steps. We have guys who are progressing as well if you see Dio [Mohammed Diomande] for example.
“He’s still a young player, he’s making big steps in the last few months. If I look at myself, last season was a rocky beginning, now I come in here with the confidence of scoring 20-plus goals in a season.
“So I’m starting with a different feeling than last season obviously.”
Will Cyriel Dessers exit Rangers amid summer transfer rumours?
Dessers is clearly targeting success at Ibrox this season rather than a move away, otherwise, he wouldn’t publically be setting the target of 20 goals only a matter of days before the new campaign gets underway.
While the Nigerian will always have his critics in the Gers’ fanbase and often justifiably so, he is a very confident man and believes that he has what it takes to be the main man in Clement’s side this year.
Hopefully, that confidence won’t have been misplaced and the 29-year-old will deliver on his promises in the coming months.
If he continues to waste good scoring chances and struggle to make an impact in the biggest games of the season, supporters and pundits will be calling for his sale again by the time January rolls around.
