Rangers have stepped up their work in the summer transfer window over the last few weeks as preparations continue for the new season.
New faces are set to arrive at Ibrox in the coming days, while first-team exits are expected to follow after Connor Goldson finally completed his much-anticipated move to Aris Limassol.
One player who has been the subject of plenty of speculation over the last few months has been James Tavernier, with some pundits tipping him to be the next player to call time on his spell in Glasgow [Daily Record, 27 July].
Turkish club Trabzonspor are known to be interested in the 32-year-old, with reports suggesting the defender has been the subject of a couple of approaches ahead of the new campaign [Rangers Review, 23 July].
But in a new interview, Tavernier may have dropped a hint that he is in no rush to leave Philippe Clement’s side this summer, insisting that his full focus remains on the task at hand at Ibrox.
Speaking to Rangers TV on Thursday (1 August) he said: ” I just don’t take any notice, basically. There has been speculation for a long time now if it’s a year and a half.
“I addressed it towards the end of last season, I am fully committed to the job in hand. That’s where my mindset will always be, fully committed, coming day by day and trying my extreme hardest to push myself and the team on.
“To do what I do every single day is to be a professional footballer, it’s like I’m 18 again.
“Every single day there is joy for me to come in to train, I am living the dream.”
Will James Tavernier exit Rangers amid Trabzonspor transfer speculation?
Although things can change very quickly in the transfer window, it doesn’t seem as though Tavernier is exactly pushing for a move away from Rangers this summer despite the rumours about his future.
Of course, that decision could well be taken out of his hands if the Light Blues accept an offer for his services.
Clement’s side need to sell players before buying over the final month of the transfer window and if the opportunity presents itself to get Tavernier’s wages off of the bill they could well be eager to take it.
But for now, it doesn’t seem as though anything is imminent when it comes to the skipper’s future. It would be a weird decision from the Gers’ media team to post this interview if an exit was on the cards already.
In other Rangers news, the Light Blues terms for Todd Cantwell and Ianis Hagi’s exits have been announced amid exit speculation
