Rangers have had a generally poor season up until this point, with the Ibrox club sitting nine points off Celtic and Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership.
There has been a lack of positivity around the Gers this campaign, with Philippe Clement coming under fire for his side’s performances.
Despite reaching the League Cup final, the semi-final win against Motherwell was far from convincing and now Brendan Rodgers’ side await at Hampden.
The Light Blues boss has demanded patience from supporters after making 11 signings, but has often utilised a similar-looking starting XI every week.
With that in mind, Ibrox News looks at Rangers’ strongest starting line-up based off their first 11 top-flight matches.
James Tavernier and Cyriel Dessers in Rangers best XI
Jack Butland has been an ever-present for the Gers since signing and for good reason – he has been superb. The Englishman has faced some criticism for a selection of errors but there is no doubt that he is an important part of the starting XI who makes the team better.
Despite coming under fire from supporters, Tavernier is in the best XI at Ibrox even if he hasn’t been at his best for a while. On the opposite flank, Jefte takes the spot as the Brazilian looks to be getting better week-on-week.
In the centre of defence, Leon Balogun has landed a spot in this side ahead of Robin Propper who has struggled since signing in the summer. Alongside him, John Souttar deserves a place in this XI given how solid he has been for the Light Blues this season, stepping up after the sale of Connor Goldson.
In midfield, Connor Barron has arguably been the best player in that position at Ibrox this term, despite having some shaky moments since joining from Aberdeen. The Scot has looked at his best alongside Nico Raskin, who has been a solid operator this campaign.
Ahead of them, Mohamed Diomande takes a spot in this team despite registering just one goal this season. His ability to get up and down the pitch makes the Gers more solid which helps his side to be harder to beat.
Out wide, Tom Lawrence has taken a spot ahead of summer signing Bajrami despite a somewhat positive start to life in Glasgow for the latter. The Welshman has been superb and has arguably been the Ibrox club’s best player this season when fit.
On the opposite wing, Vaclav Cerny is more than deserving of his place after scoring six goals for the club already despite a shaky start in the Scottish Premiership.
Dessers also earns a spot in the best XI almost by default, even if he is incredibly wasteful at times. Hamza Igamane isn’t yet good enough and with four league goals, the Nigerian is still the top scorer at the club this season.
