Rangers have a chance to turn the tide in their season when they visit Pittodrie to take on Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership.
Philippe Clement’s team are set to be welcomed by the Dons, who have surprised many this season, sitting level on points with Celtic at the top of the table.
The Gers have struggled to find consistency since the start of the campaign, and with the Belgian manager’s future being scrutinised, there is pressure to get positive results in the coming fixtures.
The game against Aberdeen is a chance for Rangers to reduce the points gap and keep their hopes of challenging for the league title alive.
Jimmy Thelin’s team will undoubtedly be up for the occasion, and the Dons have confirmed plans for a pyro show when the two teams walk out of the tunnel [Daily Record, 29 October], which will set the mood for the fixture.
Rangers need victory against Aberdeen
Nothing short of a victory should be acceptable for Rangers if Clement is ambitious about being successful at the club.
A loss would take Aberdeen nine points clear of Gers, which would be an insurmountable task despite the fact that there is a long way to go in the season.
The Light Blues managed to get the better of St Mirren in the previous fixture, but it wasn’t a convincing win from the home side.
Vaclav Cerny came up trumps in the game on 27 October at Ibrox, potentially saving the Belgian manager from getting sacked.
The Dons are unbeaten at home in the Scottish Premiership this season, and the Bears will have to pull off something special to get the three points at Pittodrie.
If they didn’t know beforehand, Rangers’ players certainly will do now following this announcement: The atmosphere at Pittodrie will be red hot.
This is exactly the occasion each of them have been brought to the club for, though, and there is no reason why they cannot each stand up and be counted in what is a huge showdown so early in the season.
In other Rangers news, Clement has been slammed for his claims about Robbin Proper.
