Philippe Clement must take action after Hamza Igamane’s awful performance during Rangers’ 2-1 win over St Mirren on Sunday (27 October).
The 21-year-old set the tone for his display in the opening minutes of the clash, picking up a needless yellow card after fouling Charles Dunne straight after kick-off.
Luckily, Cyriel Dessers was on hand to replace him at half-time, and while he also could not get on the scoresheet at Ibrox, his performance was a far cry from that of his teammate.
Igamane, of course, is extremely new to the division, having only arrived from FAR Rabat this summer, and there have been some very bright sparks to his football so far.
However, the Gers’ upcoming clash against Aberdeen on Wednesday 30 October could be one of the most important games of the season, with a Scottish Premiership title race at stake.
Considering this, Clement has no other option but to drop Igamane from the starting XI instantly, likely starting Dessers alongside Vaclav Cerny, Nedim Bajrami and Mohamed Diomande.
Philippe Clement must axe Hamza Igamane ahead of Rangers v Aberdeen
As well as earning himself an early yellow card, the Moroccan only lasted 45 minutes on the pitch, completing zero per cent of his dribbles, winning zero per cent of his ground duels and zero per cent of his aerial duels [FotMob].
He was also dispossessed on three separate occasions, was caught offside once, and took zero shots, disappointing his manager and those fans all calling for him to start the match.
While Dessers is experiencing a goal drought, not scoring since his brace against Dundee in mid-September, he offers far more in the final third, which will be crucial at the Pittodrie Stadium.
In his second-half display against the Saints, the 29-year-old completed 91 per cent of his passes, maintained a 100 per cent shot accuracy, created one big chance and completed 75 per cent of his dribbles [FotMob].
It seems like such an easy change to make ahead of the Aberdeen clash, but Clement is never one for the easiest route. It will be interesting what starting XI he names on Wednesday night.
In other Rangers news, Jeff Stelling and Ally McCoist were in stitches at a Gers jibe after what was said about Manchester United.
