Ibrox View: Rangers need to shell out £7.7m to seal new transfer as news emerges in last 1 hour

Rangers will now have to shell out a fee in the region of £7.7million if they are to sign Penarol midfielder Damian Garcia.

Football Scotland reported on 5 June that the 20-year-old was a transfer target at Ibrox and that Nils Koppen will likely have had transfer talks to sign him in Cancun.

However, if Gers are to still sign him this summer, things have got more complicated as he is expected to sign a new contract until 2026, according to Dario Alberti.

To protect their interests, the Sport 890 journalist claimed that they would add a £7.7million release clause in the deal.

Via Twitter, Alberti wrote: “Tomorrow the renewal of Damián García’s contract with Peñarol will be signed until December 2026. The player will have a salary increase and an exit clause of US$ 10,000,000. Ruglio and Lasalvia closed it on their trip to Mexico.”

Rangers are unlikely to pay big money for Damian Garcia

At 20 years old, Garcia is still an unproven talent, especially outside of Uruguay.

While he has shown promise in his home country, there’s no guarantee he can replicate that success in a more competitive league like the Scottish Premiership.

Furthermore, Garcia has yet to make a significant impact on the international stage.

His performances in the under-20 World Cup were impressive, but it’s a big leap from youth international football to the rigours of senior club football.

Rangers would be taking a significant risk by investing such a large sum in an unproven player.

Damian Garcia pursuit does not align with the Rangers transfer strategy

Instead, Gers should focus on more established and proven talent.

The club have limited funds to spend in the transfer market and it would be a mistake to allocate a significant portion of their budget on a player who is still developing.

There are likely more cost-effective options available that can make an immediate impact on the first team.

Philippe Clement’s recommendations must also be considered as he will be the one responsible if he cannot take the club to the next level.

In other Rangers news, Philippe Clement will now tell a first-team player to clear out his locker at Ibrox as a development has emerged from Glasgow.
