Ibrox View: Rangers set for £5m+ setback as transfer decision made

Rangers could be set for a £5million-plus setback after Sam Lammers saw another potential destination ruled out this summer.

The Dutch forward signed at Ibrox in a £5million deal last summer but quickly fell out of favour with fans and management, before being loaned back to his homeland for the second half of the season.

But he showed why the club splashed the cash on him to begin with with some sensational form while at FC Urtecht, as he hit ten goals in 18 appearances.

A permanent move to Urtecht was expected, however they needed Rangers to drop their demands and the player to drop his own wage demands to get a deal done and neither party was willing to do that.

That saw Lammers replaced by Noah Ohio recently, meaning that other interested clubs had a clear run at bringing the 28-year-old to the Eredivisie on a permanent basis this summer.

One of those clubs was AZ Alkmaar, who were hugely impressed by his form, but that door for an Ibrox exit has now shut seemingly too after they announced a new striker transfer themselves.

Sam Lammers won’t be joining AZ Alkmaar from Rangers

Alkmaar have splashed £6.5m on Tottenham youngster Troy Parrott [Fabrizio Romano, 13 July] to fill their goalscoring void, and that means Rangers are running out of places for Lammers to leave and for them to make their money back.

Philippe Clement made it clear that the forward isn’t someone that suits his style by allowing him to leave just months after his arrival, and with the boss also admitting that Rangers must sell-to-buy this summer there is a clear need to find him a new club.

If Lammers doesn’t leave not only does it mean that Clement will have someone in the squad he doesn’t want or rate, but the player clearly doesn’t want to be at Ibrox either and it means the club will miss out on a big payday.

It’s a huge blow for Rangers and they better start looking for new destinations that could be of interest, or there will be huge problems with their squad this season.

In other Rangers news, an English club are ready to spend big on this Ibrox star.
