Ilya Zabarnyi £50m transfer news revealed as Tottenham update emerges

Tottenham will have to pay around £50million for the transfer of Bournemouth defender Ilya Zabarnyi, according to CaughOffside.

The news outlet reports [15 November] that Spurs have been keeping tabs on the 22-year-old for a while now and are looking to make a move for him, although they will have to contend with Chelsea.

Enzo Maresca is an admirer of the Ukraine international, with the centre-back open to moving to London in the coming months.

Ange Postecoglou might be satisfied with Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven as his first-choice pairing, but the duo aren’t reliable due to their fitness issues.

Both the Dutchman and the Argentine have been marred by injuries during their time in North London, which is a cause for concern for the Lilywhites faithful.

The Australian head coach has Radu Dragusin at his disposal, but his recent performances have shown that Romanian still has a long way to go before becoming regular at the club.

Ben Davies is the only other experienced player capable of being deployed as a centre-back, showcasing the need for reinforcements at Tottenham.

Zabarnyi has established himself as a regular at Bournemouth since last season and has caught the attention of many with his displays, starting in every Premier League fixture so far this season for the Cherries.

Postecoglou can’t be expected to challenge top sides with a depleted squad, and the Ukrainian is someone who can surely add quality to the Spurs squad.
